RecordCue collects no personal data. There is no account to make, no server to send anything to, and no analytics of any kind. This page says what that means in practice, because a recording app claiming it deserves the detail.
What is collected
Nothing. RecordCue makes no network requests of its own. It has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no advertising identifiers, and it contains no third-party SDKs.
The one exception is not ours: buying RecordCue Pro is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store, which talks to Apple to complete and verify the purchase. We never see your name, your Apple Account or your payment details — only whether this copy has been paid for.
What stays on your Mac
- Recordings, in the folder you chose (by default ~/Movies/RecordCue).
- Transcripts, saved as plain text files next to their recording.
- Your settings and detection rules.
- A short local list of calls that were detected, so the app can show you what it has seen. It never leaves the Mac and you can clear it.
None of this is sent anywhere, and deleting the app leaves your recordings exactly where they are.
Transcription
Transcription uses the speech recognition built into macOS, with on-device recognition required rather than merely preferred. Audio is not uploaded to Apple or to anyone else. If a Mac cannot recognise a language on the device, RecordCue reports that it could not transcribe rather than falling back to a server.
Permissions, and why each one exists
- Microphone — to record your own voice. Asked for the first time you record.
- Screen Recording — macOS exposes the audio another app is playing only through the screen capture interface, so recording the other side of a call requires it even when no picture is captured. It is also what makes screen recording possible when you ask for it.
- Speech Recognition — to turn a finished recording into text, on the device.
- Notifications — optional. The on-screen cue works without it.
RecordCue does not use the camera, does not read your browsing history, and never asks for access to your files beyond the folder you point it at.
Recording other people
Whether you may record a conversation depends on where everyone in it is. In many places you have to tell the other people, and in some you need their agreement. RecordCue cannot know this and does not decide it for you.
Children
RecordCue is a tool for recording your own calls and is not directed at children. Since it collects nothing, it collects nothing from them either.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that affected what leaves your Mac would be announced in the app itself, not only here.
